Exclusive bollards and exterior wall lights were created for Baycroft’s collection of high quality care homes, located across the south of England, including sites at: Great Baddow, Chelmsford; Greys Farm, Orpington; Kempston and Flitwick, Bedfordshire; and Carpenders Park, Watford.
Each facility in the Baycroft collection is a distinctive property in its own right. For this reason, a large-scale exterior lighting solution was required – one which would accommodate the features of individual sites while providing consistency across the brand.
With resident safety and the elegance of the property in mind, lighting would be created around structural components such as paths and parking areas as well as design features such as planters, ornaments and foliage.
From an operational point of view, our products would also need to provide easy cleaning and maintenance for Baycroft staff. Approximately 20 bespoke bollards and 30 matching bespoke wall lights were ordered for each property – more than 250 luminaires in total across the series of builds.
Our bollards, path lights and wall lights – many of which have been installed between the balconies of individual apartments – bring stunning illumination and a unified look to each care home and across the Baycroft brand. Responsive to the client’s concerns around maintenance, we collaborated closely with Gill Jackson Healthcare Consultants Ltd to create original bollards with a removable head unit, which allow for easy cleaning and/or maintenance when required, such as when the LED component needs replacing.
Gill Jackson Healthcare Consultants Ltd said: “The Light Yard have been fantastic to work with, and working with a bespoke lighting provider means we were able to evolve the product in a way that was specific to the project. “The whole thing has been considered well – and the lights tick a lot of boxes. Primarily it’s the aesthetic, but the LED lamps have a long lamp life, they don’t emit a massive amount of glare or heat. Dirt and dust don’t bake onto them, so they look better longer, and the running costs are lower as well.”
The aesthetic features which originally drew the Gill Jackson company to The Light Yard have now been adopted as standard, distinguishing the Baycroft brand from competitors while signalling the high standards for care and quality found throughout its facilities."
This new design, which ensures longevity and long-term sustainability, has become a standard recommendation for commercial projects, since it provides a more convenient, cost-effective solution for the upkeep of external lighting fixtures, which are likely to experience greater wear and tear than fixtures in residential environments. A custom gatepost flourish has also been added in some properties. Designed to welcome residents and visitors onto the grounds, the 12-inch cubes of glass feature a laser-cut Baycroft logo, illuminated from both sides.
